Today is a very special day—IT’S OUR 4TH BIRTHDAY! As we celebrate, we wanted to look back at some of the great stuff we’ve done this past year—as well as look ahead to some of the exciting things coming up in the year ahead!
This year we have:
• Added terms to our ongoing Defining series, including Intersectionality, Gender Dysphoria, Homophobia + Transphobia, Ally, and more
• Threw an awesome All Ages Party at NYC Pride (with Tegan and Sara as special guests!)
• Revamped our monthly newsletter to bring you updates on all things MKIG
• Started working with a mother-son duo (Katia and Diego) in Puerto Rico to translate more of our work into Spanish
• Interviewed Michelle Badillo, one of the writers on Netflix’s One Day at a Time, about the amazing coming out storyline, religion, and family
• Our amazing contributors offered advice and insight on a wide range of topics, including:
• Am I Betraying My Kid If I Stay at a Non-Affirming Church? By Austen Hartke
• 7 Ways To Support Someone Who’s Changing Their Name & Pronouns By Jamey Hampton
• Depression, Coming Out, and How You Can Support Your Kid Through It All By Ashleigh Tobin, MA, LLPC
• Coming Out Advice for Muslim Families By Teresa Kane
• Adjusting to Your Kid Using They/Them Pronouns By Araguaney Rodriguez Da Silva
• Getting Your Kids Involved in Activism By Jamie Bruesehoff
• When Is a Good Time to Start a Medical Transition? By Irwin Krieger, LCSW
• (At Least) 5 Ways to Show Up for the LGBTQ Community During Trump By Amanda Neumann
• …And so many more!
We are so so excited to continue to expand our work in the coming year to reach even more parents and teachers who need our support!
NEXT UP: you can support us on Patreon for as little as $1 a month. When we reach our first goal (of $500 a month), we will release a sequel to our Coming Out with Care package, this time specifically focusing on trans and non-binary identities. This new exciting project will be aimed at educating parents around gender, pronouns, transitioning, and how best to support their trans or non-binary kid after they have come out!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all of your love and support this year. Keep sending us your questions, sign up for our newsletter, and stick around for the awesome year ahead!
Kristin, Grace, and the MKIG Team
